Don Clifton (SAMCA V/P) and I recently attended the National body AGM in Melbourne. Below is some feedback.
. a completely rewritten constitution was passed replacing the existing 22 year old version
. included in that document is the SA proposal to lower the male entry age to 30
. another SA inspired move to change the name of the National body from “Veterans” to “Masters” was passed unanimously. So the AVCC will become the AMCC Once the legalities are finalised)
. as previously announced the 2020 Nationals will be in Adelaide. The dates for this event are yet to be decided. Initially SAMCA was looking at running in conjunction with the TDU. However following feedback from interstate representatives regarding the cost of travel and accommodation in January, the Easter dates are still a possibility. The AVCC will survey all members nationally to get a feel for preferences. Another issue to be considered is the possible interruption to the race program from extreme heat in January.
. the outcome of the election of officers was very gratifying for SA. Our very own Don Clifton was elected President of the AVCC for the next twelve months. Well done Don. The incumbent V/P Dougal Torrance from the ACT was re elected. Jeremy Locke from Gold Coast Masters was elected Secretary and Cheryl Hutchins, who has proved to be an outstanding Treasurer was re elected.
. Don and his new executive gave the meeting an undertaking that there will be a detailed review of AVCC’s finances which will involve amongst other things our insurance coverage and a more efficient/flexible licensing system . It is worth noting that insurance represents 69% of AVCC’s outgoings. Between 2018 and 2019 the premium rose by close to $25000.
